The Safety Culture Training Simulator (SCTS) brings a vast quantity of data to life on a bank of monitors. Using a sophisticated series of HSE metrics such as Culture Index, Proactivity Index, Reporting Index and The Gauge, the candidates learn how to interpret over 250,000 data items delivered to them during the course of the training.
During the programme literally hundreds of emails flow into the candidates inbox from various members of his virtual company. These represent the typical issues which any manager might reasonably be expected to address. A fully functional email system enables candidates to respond as they deem necessary.
At various points during the training, the candidate will be required to make presentations to the "board of directors" on the performance of the company. Naturally, there will be searching discussions on such issues as Strategy, Performance, Culture, Management etc.
Not every aspect of the training relates to data interpretation. Presentations are made to the candidate by his "HSE Manager" on crucial aspects relating to the measurement and interpretation of HSE related data. These presentations are designed to provide the candidate with the knowledge of the tools and techniques that will be needed when he returns to his own organisation.
Every manager needs to know what is happening within his area of responsibility. The SCTS offers candidates the opportunity to examine their virtual company's HSE performance and issues from a variety of angles, to enable them to see the Safety Culture "Big Picture".
Knowing what is happening at a departmental or divisional level is vital to overall HSE performance. The SCTS virtual company comprises 6 different departments, each with its own issues, management styles and performance levels. The candidates need to be able to evaluate which of their subordinate groups may be putting the overall company at risk.
